The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed Gregory Polanco on outright waivers, according to reports.

Polanco carries a $11.6 million salary this season, with about $2.4 million of that remaining.

Any team claiming him would be responsible for that remaining salary. But if he goes unclaimed, Polanco would be able to elect free agency.

Padres Sign Jake Arrieta To Minor League Deal

Aug 18, 2021 8:20 AM

The San Diego Padres have signed Jake Arrieta to a Minor League contract.

San Diego is in need of pitching depth as they look to hold onto a National League Wild Card spot.

"We need quality innings, we need pitches, we need an opportunity to win games," Jayce Tingler said. "With all of his experience, everything he's done, we need some quality innings these last seven weeks and we think he can be part of that solution.

"A great opportunity to pitch, to pitch well, and pitch for a winning team. We'll see how the next couple of weeks line up but it's a great opportunity for both sides."

Arrieta was released by the Chicago Cubs last week after he was 5-11 with a 6.88 ERA this season in his second stint with the franchise.
